In 1966, Ron and Elaine Elzinga took a memorable road trip that would spark a lifelong love of Mustangs. They drove a brand-new Mustang convertible from Detroit to Long Beach for a dealer delivery, with their two- and five-year-old children in the back seat. While in California, they visited Ron’s brother and created memories that would last a lifetime.
Elaine was smitten with that car and, about five years later, the couple purchased a 1966 Mustang convertible similar to the one from their cross-country adventure. Elaine insisted it would become a collectible classic, but Ron wasn’t so sure—after all, Ford had made so many that year.
Fast forward three decades, and Ron had to admit Elaine was right. He encouraged her to add a Mustang to their growing collection of classic cars. Elaine found the perfect one at a local car show—a beautifully restored ’66 convertible, expertly brought back to life by Bernie Baumann, a Mustang restoration specialist and fellow member of the Vintage Car Club of Holland.
Nicknamed “Pretty Pony,” the Mustang became their favorite touring car. Over the years, it carried them on countless adventures, adding even more stories to Elaine’s long Mustang journey.
