We met up with John and Amber and their striking white 1977 Corvette at the Old Windmill Gas Station Mural for our VCCH Calendar photoshoot. These events are always a delight — a chance to capture beautiful cars against nostalgic backdrops, choreograph their proud owners into the scene, and, most importantly, discover the stories that brought them to their vintage treasures.
For John, that story begins with his Aunt Judy. Upon her passing, she left inheritances to her relatives including her nieces and nephews, but with one special request: the money must be used for something fun — not for bills, not for obligations, but for joy.
John carried that request with him and thought carefully about what would truly honor her spirit. Driving through Jenison, he often passed by a white 1977 Corvette sitting by the road with a For Sale sign. For three weeks he admired its clean, original survivor condition and the graceful swoop of its fenders. Finally, he stopped to take a closer look.
As it turned out, the Corvette belonged to a local state trooper, who gladly shared with John everything about the car — its history, its originality, and the care it had received over the years. The conversation sealed the decision. John knew this was the “something fun” Aunt Judy would have wanted for him — a car that wasn’t just transportation, but an experience.
With that, the Corvette became his, and John soon found himself welcomed into the Vintage Car Club of Holland, ready to embrace the friendships and adventures that come with classic car ownership.
In honoring Aunt Judy’s wish, John gained more than a car. He gained a connection — to her, to the road, and to a community that shares in the joy of preserving automotive history. And the rest, as they say, is history.
