A Gem of a Ford
How Ruby Represents History and an Enduring Relationship

Some stories in our club aren’t just about cars—they’re about friendships and legacies.
John Shea had long admired the Ford Model T, not only for its place in history but for what it symbolized: a time when hard-working men, no matter their background, could afford to own the very car they helped build. In 2016, John and his wife Kim joined the Vintage Car Club of Holland with their own Model T, and it wasn’t long before they met Ron and Mary Voss.
Ron, a skilled mechanic and long-time club member, became both a teacher and a friend. He gave John his first lessons behind the wheel of a Model T, and over time their bond grew. As Ron’s health began to decline, he looked for caretakers for his beloved collection. One of those cars was a beautifully restored 1929 black and red Model A Town Sedan. Ron knew it was the right time for John to “graduate” from the T to the A.
John and Kim were deeply honored to become the stewards of that car, which they lovingly named “Ruby” for her rich finish. Though Ron has since passed, his memory continues every time Ruby rolls out with the club. She’s more than just a car—she’s a reminder of the friendships, mentorships, and shared love of history that define the Vintage Car Club of Holland.
